Imagine a world where communities can access limitless electricity by expanding solar generation potential to the water

Imagine a world where communities can access limitless electricity by expanding solar generation potential to the water. Floating solar is fast garnering interest throughout the world but comes with its own challenges.

A recent study, published by the Australian National University, analysed 40 years of wind and wave data to determine the hot spots for deploying floating solar PV globally. While proximity to the Equator is an obvious start, the heatmap of offshore solar potential identified the Southern part of Australia as a possible deployment opportunity given its relatively calm waters. Australia can further benefit from floating solar by utilising dams and inland water reservoirs, such as the floating solar plants already deployed in South Australia and New South Wales, as we accelerate our renewable energy transition to help realise our NetZero targets.
